This picture postcard (it's not, I took it) is of a bend in the river where Hunsett Mill
stands next to a private dwelling. You can't land here but it is probably the most
photographed scene in the whole area. Its in all the boat catalogues. Again, the 'mill' was
used for pumping water. Many of the fields here are below river level as in Holland.
The Swan Inn, Horning.
The river here makes a right turn of some 100 degrees which makes the
corner, as seen here, quite a good place for mooring. The "Mississippi
Steamer", moored up behind the yacht, is in fact a catamarran! Just to the
left of the picture and not showing here is the Horning Yacht club. This
place will be familiar to anyone who has read Arthur Ransome's "Coot Club"
and "The Big Six".
Ok. You can't see much of the river as there is a ruddy great boat in the
way. (It's the one we hired for the occasion.) In the back-ground is another wind pump that has been lovingly
restored. (Yes, thats me standing by the bow.)
